Opel Kadett 1991

We got this car by ´accident´, as it was offered to us at a very affordable prize. We were still driving the Corsa which we consequently needed to sell.

There were a few minor blemishes which needed to be fixed but otherwise the car was in quite good condition and a nice ´upgrade´ to the Corsa. We did a tour around Germany and Austria with the car, and except for the problem with the water pump (which was easily repaired in München), the car worked great (well, the brakes were a bit strained when we came down the mount Kehlstein).

The brakes however became a problem a year later, beginning with random hangups. Ive never been a fan of one-piston model preferring 2- or 4-piston models instead. The front brake discs were replaced (and the break pads of course) as well as the gliding bolts. In the end the whole caliper was replaced which fixed the problem.

In 2005 the engine started to act up, sometimes the ignition would not work when starting the engine and finally it quit altogether. We towed the car to a shop where they diagnosed a worn down distributor which then was replaced. After this replacement however, the car seemed to be a bit more sluggish, the engine did not seem to be quite as responsive as earlier. Same year the main ventilation fan was replaced.

The car is currently for sale and there is a list (in Finnish, sorry) detailing all the stuff that has been fixed or changed during the years.
